Thomas Jefferson, the third US President, was known by several nicknames, most of them were aristocratic. His nicknames were secretive:
- The Pen of the Revolution
- The Apostle of the Democracy
- The Apostle of the Constitution
- The Man of the People
- The Sage of Monticello - a tribute to his home. After inheriting land from his father when he was 26 years old, he began designing Monticello and built the primary slave labor plantation in Virginia. (Source: Book: The Sage of Monticello by Dumas Malone 1981)
- Long Tom - referring to his height of 6 feet, 3 inches which was about six inches taller than the average height of men at that time.
